We’re only a quarter of the way through 2022, but that’s been plenty of time for some unexpected TV cast shake-ups.

In March alone, the ensembles of Grey’s Anatomy, Legends of Tomorrow, Good Trouble and grown-ish lost at least one major cast member — or, in grown-ish‘s case, a whopping six.

But several other series have also said goodbye to staples of their casts, and with nine months left in the year, we suspect a few more farewells are on the horizon. To that end, in the list below, TVLine is keeping tabs on the surprising cast exits of 2022, which we’ll continue updating as the year goes on. The departures currently include two stars of CBS crime procedurals, a recurring 9-1-1: Lone Star cast member whose sendoff sincerely shocked us, and not one, but two exits related to on-set COVID protocols.

Naturally, since we’re going into detail about how these actors left their respective shows, this list comes with a big ol’ spoiler alert! If you aren’t caught up on the following series (listed alphabetically), we’d suggest coming back once you’re up to speed: 9-1-1: Lone Star, The Chi, CSI: Vegas, Fear the Walking Dead, FBI: Most Wanted, The Gilded Age, Good Trouble, Grey’s Anatomy, grown-ish, The Handmaid’s Tale, Law & Order, Legends of Tomorrow, New Amsterdam, The Resident, Run the World, Sex Education, The Sex Lives of College Girls, S.W.A.T. and The Young and the Restless.

But if you’re all caught up on your favorites, keep scrolling to revisit the year’s most stunning cast departures so far, then drop a comment with the one(s) that took you by surprise.
